Alexander Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki (ATEI-Th.) was founded in 1970 and it is one of the oldest Institutes in Greece. There are currently 25 Departments in operation, which are organized into 6 Schools: School of Agricultural Technology, School of Business Administration and Economics, School of Food Technology and Nutrition, School of Health and medical Care, School of Technological Applications, and School of Technological Applications.

The Department of Logistics is one of the most recent Departments of the ATEI-Th started operating at Katerini during the winter semester 2003-2004. Today all the academic semesters run fully 900 enrolled students, with a very high level of participation both in theoretical and laboratory subjects.

Moreover, the academic personnel has significant experience in agricultural economics, farm management, regional planning, marketing of agricultural products, food supply chain management, logistics and traceability, policy impact assessment, decision support systems and support tools, sustainable development and sustainable use of resources, and environmental management.

Extensive research on the Greek Pellet Market was conducted in the context of the GREEN-Agrichains Project. Critical results of interest were presented in the context of the 14th Pellets Industry Forum that was co-organized by Solar Promotion GmbH, the European Pellet Council, and the European Biomass Association (AEVIOM) in Munich, June 11-12, 2015.

Best Young Researcher Award (Biomass)

One of the senior post-doctoral researchers of the GREEN-Agrichains project, Dr. Agorasti-Eri Toka, was awarded as the Best Young Researcher on Biomass at World Sustainable Energy Days 2015 (24-26 February, Wels/Austria) by Mr. Rudi Anschober, Regional Minister for Energy, Upper Austria and Mr. Gerhard Dell, Director of OÖ Energiesparverband, Austria.
